Description:
The University of Miami (UM) Linda Ray Center develops and delivers programs to improve the outcomes for Miami's at-risk children and families. The Center provides a model for others to use elsewhere. Evidence is collected on program effectiveness to share with the community and other partners. The Center!s various programs include:
Multidisciplinary Educational Services Center
Center-based, Birth-two Early Intervention Program
Enhanced Summer Program
Parenting Program
As a FDLRS-UM Multidisciplinary Educational Services Center, the center provides consultation, technical assistance, and pre-service and in-service training for families, teachers, school district personnel, and community support providers concerning children and youth with complex medical, emotional, or behavioral problems. FDLRS-UM MDC unique services and support of students impacted by parental substance abuse, child maltreatment, exposure to family violence, and foster care experiences allow for the early identification of students! needs and facilitate the implementation of evidence-based interventions to improve long-term outcomes for these children and youth.
The Center-based, Birth-two Early Intervention Program in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Florida!s Early Steps program, provides daily early intervention services to infants and young children with developmental delays or disabilities.
The center!s enhanced summer program, funded partly by the Children!s Trust, allows for the continuity of the beneficial impacts of the school-year early intervention services throughout the summer. The eight (8) week program incorporates the evidence-based programs; Infant and Toddler HighScope Curriculum and Conscience Discipline.
Beginning October 1, 2023, the Center will launch a new program offering the evidence-based curriculum, The Nurturing Program for Parents and their Children with Special Needs and Health Challenges a trauma-informed, family-based program designed for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect to families with children identified with a developmental delay or disability ages birth to five years old.
