Description:
The After-school Treatment Program (ATP) is a school-year program dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children between the ages of 6 and 12 at-risk for academic, behavioral, interpersonal, and organizational difficulties. The ATP is modeled after the award-winning and well-established Summer Treatment Program (STP) and employs similar components with an emphasis on integration within the school setting and throughout the course of the academic year. The program also incorporates:
A certified teacher for reading and literacy lessons.
A certified teacher to help with academics.
Biweekly parent strategy meeting groups to review and emphasize the approaches used throughout the program (e.g., praising, positive behavior).
Organized sports and recreation period.
Academic support.
Social skills training.
Collaboration with the children!s classroom teachers through frequent teacher consultations to identify and improve difficulties occurring within the classroom setting.

Hours:
1:45pm-6:00pm, Mon-Fri
Note: the ATP follows the Miami-Dade County Public School Calendar
Intake Process:
The children at Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Elementary are referred by the school counselor to the program's Clinical Supervisor and Director.
The child's teacher and parents complete a packet with questionnaires about the child's behavior, and academic performance.
Families are contacted by the program coordinator for an interview.
Three weeks after the interview, families are contacted with an eligibility response.
**The ATP recruitment process is in June and July of every academic year.**
Program Fees:
The ATP is free. There is a one-time non-refundable fee of $150.

Eligibility:
* The child must attend Dr. Carlos J. Finlay Elementary School.
* The child must be in 1st to 5th grade.
* The child must be experiencing difficulties in one of these domains: behavior, academics, social skills.
Things to keep in mind for parents:
* The child must be able to be outside for sports and recreation period.
* The child must be able to work in a group setting.
