Description:

Florida International University!€™s Summer Academy (FIU Summer Academy), operated by the Center for Children and Families (CCF) at FIU, provides a 7-week, full-day school readiness summer camp for children and their families.

Healthy meals, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided daily at no cost. Parent engagement is also a major aspect of the program and is facilitated through daily written feedback on each child!€™s progress and a weekly evidence-based School Readiness Parenting Program (SRPP). In the SRPP parents learn specialized strategies to promote children!€™s behavioral and social-emotional functioning, early literacy skills, and positive approaches to learning.

Hours:

8:30am-3:00pm, Mon-Fri

Aftercare available until 4:30pm

Intake Process:

Interested parents/caregivers can call to learn more about the program and to complete an initial phone screen. Screening takes 2 hours and both parent and child must be present. If preliminary eligibility is established via screen, parents will be invited to an evaluation visit at Thena Crowder to determine full eligibility for the program.

Program Fees:

Registration fee: $50

Aftercare fee: $15 per week (if aftercare needed until 4:30pm)

Free tuition.

Eligibility:

Children 4 ½ - 5 years old with disabilities, and their families.

Child must be transitioning to kindergarten (age 5 as of September 1st) and must currently be having attention, learning, behavioral, and/or social-emotional difficulties at home or school. Daily program attendance required. Parent/caregiver attendance in parent weekly meeting also required.
