Description:

The University of Miami's Families First Program, funded by The Children's Trust since 2004, offers free parenting services to families with children ages birth to 3 throughout Miami-Dade County.

Goals include building resources for parents, strengthening families, promoting optimal child development, and reducing parental stress. The Incredible Years Parents and Babies program is designed to strengthen the parent-infant bond, promote secure attachment, and support early social, emotional, and language development during the first year of life.

The program is intended for mothers, fathers, and caregivers of infants ages 0 to 12 months and emphasizes the importance of nurturing, responsive caregiving in the earliest stages of development. Recognized as a best-practice program, the Parents and Babies Curriculum helps caregivers understand and respond to their baby!€™s cues, support their baby!€™s physical and emotional needs, and build confidence in their parenting role. Weekly group sessions incorporate video vignettes of real parent-infant interactions, which are used to prompt reflection, discussion, and collaborative problem-solving.

The program also encourages peer support and shared learning among participants. Daytime and evening groups are offered on a weekly basis in English and Spanish to Miami-Dade County residents at various locations throughout the county and via telehealth.
