Description:

The Mexican American Council, Inc.'s (MAC) College and Career Prep (CCP) program provides school-year academic performance/college readiness; career competencies the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) to 100 farmworker high school students and their families in south Miami-Dade County.

CCP is designed as a comprehensive program inclusive of academic support, social-emotional learning (SEL), job coaching/job training, college readiness counseling, arts and culture/STEM exposure, and family engagement. The program focus is to improve life/employability skills as a tool for social change, to offer opportunities to secure Bright Futures Scholarships and to assist high school students' enrollment to college, or technical certification programs, following high school graduation.

The program uses integrated evidence-based practices such as tutoring, homework assistance, academic monitoring, an SAT/ACT preparation component for high school juniors and seniors, and quarterly family engagement meetings/workshops. To measure the factors that make up a high quality youth program, the Youth and Programs Strengths Survey (YAPS Survey) is used as a reliable and valid assessment of the strengths and supports youth needs to succeed in school and life.
