Description:

Early Steps is a statewide system of early intervention services for families with infants and toddlers (ages zero to three) who are either not reaching age-appropriate milestones or who have a diagnosed condition.

Anyone with a concern about a childs development can contact Early Steps directly to request an evaluation. This could be a doctor, a childcare or social service provider, or another professional. An Early Steps service coordinator will contact you to schedule an evaluation to assess if your child has a disability or a delay that qualifies them for the program.

In Miami-Dade County, we perform evaluations in our office. In Monroe County, we perform virtual evaluations.

If your child qualifies for early intervention services, we create an Individualized Family Support plan (IFSP) based on your childs needs and the familys concerns.

Early intervention services are provided in the home and community where your child lives, learns and plays. Addressing developmental delays during the early years helps children reach their full potential.

When the child is discharged from Early Steps (a day before their 3rd birthday) , families can choose to transition to the 3-year-old program in the public school system

Intake Process:

You will receive a letter with an evaluation appointment date within 45 days of referral.

A service coordinator will contact the family at least 5 days prior to the evaluation appointment date. During this conversation, the service coordinator will ask you questions regarding your concerns and priorities, childs medical history, family! daily routines, etc.

Program Fees:

Evaluations, to determine eligibility, are provided at no cost to the families, regardless of income. Early Steps services are funded through Medicaid, private insurance and the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Part C. Insurance can be accepted.

Languages:

English, Spanish, Creole, translator available for other languages depending on availability
