Description:

The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is a federally funded program that helps income-qualified families with water and wastewater costs. The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has been identified as the Grantee to administer the LIHWAP program from June 1st, 2021 !€“ September 30th, 2023 for the state of Florida.

LIHWAP funds will be issued and administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which also federally administers the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHWAP will closely model LIHEAP, utilizing the existing Community Action Network in addition to the current LIHEAP policies, processes, and procedures.

Intake Process:

Must fill out LIHWAP Application and submit with:

Original copy of water bill.
Copy of Social Security cards for all household members.
Copy of Applicants' ID (Driver's License, FL ID, or Voter Registration Card).
Copy of proof of income for every member of the household for the prior month.

Proof of Income options: Consecutive Pay stubs- weekly: 4 pay stubs, bi-weekly: 2 pay stubs, if paid once a month then 1 pay stub; letter from employer on company letterhead stating income from prior month or current income tax return

Child Support/Alimony
Self Employed Income or Financial Support from Friends or Family

* Income Self Declaration Form provided at Service Centers.

Add $ 6,240 for each additional person in a household of more than 8 people

**The person requesting assistance must physically be staying at the location they are requesting the utility assistance for, if they have a lease they can also show that as proof to receive the assistance.**
