Community/Nature Area Cleanup/Enhancement Projects

Programs that sponsor community beautification projects in which people, usually volunteers, pick up litter that accumulates on the highways, in rivers or streams, on beaches, in flood control channels or on other public property; maintain nature trails; pull weeds; repair fencing; fix broken equipment; or otherwise clean up, fix up or generally improve the appearance of the urban environment and its natural surroundings.

Plant/Tree Banks

Programs that provide house or garden plants for low-income people, older adults or other targeted individuals; serve as a clearinghouse for donated plants or trees; or make trees available to schools, neighborhood beautification projects, community housing programs, nonprofit organization landscaping projects, and other community beautification efforts, either directly or through an exchange program. These programs may also help recipients obtain necessary permits to plant the trees and provide information about tree care. Also included are programs that maintain a database of sources of tree planting stock for referral purposes.
