Breakthrough Miami's Summer Institute provides a rigorous six-week academic summer program at six sites throughout Miami-Dade County.

Breakthrough Miami recruits students throughout the county including partnerships with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and community based organizations. Selected students commit to attending BTM's Summer Institute full-time, which includes four academic classes and self-selected elective classes. The cross-age peer mentoring imbedded in the students-teaching-students model provides positive role models and academic support while simultaneously shaping future educational leaders and teachers. Teaching Fellows (high school/college students) are mentored and supervised by experienced educators. BTM's Summer Institute builds academic, life/leadership skills and peer relationships, which allow students to thrive in rigorous programs, graduate high school and enter four-year colleges.

Eligibility:

Middle School Students who maintain a minimum B average GPA and at or above grade level standardized test scores, and who meet two of the following five need factors:

* Qualify for free of reduced lunch
* Live in a single parent household
* English is not the primary language spoken in the home
* Will be 1st generation in the family to attend four-year college
* Racial or ethnic minority
