Description:

The Blind Babies Program (BBP) offered by the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (Lighthouse) is a family-centered program that engages parents/primary caregivers of blind or visually impaired children, birth through five (5) years utilizing the Parent as Teachers (PAT) curriculum.

Primary Services:
Home Visits: Parent program utilizing Parent as Teachers curriculum. Trained staff build support families, discuss child development/parenting practices, model, consult and coach parent/caregivers.

Playgroups: Playgroups provide parents with the opportunities for positive family interactions that promote positive parenting behaviors. Playgroups meet Mondays and Wednesdays at the Lighthouse facility. Siblings are welcomed.

Support Group: Support groups are intended to provide families the opportunity to build social connections with each other, support child development and make available additional community resources.

        General Information

        Hours:

        8:00am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri

        Intake Process:

        Children from birth - 5 years old.

        Parent must present medical documents stating eye condition, social worker will then interview parent to determine eligibility.

        Program Fees:

        Free, no cost to Families

        Transportation available

        Languages:

        English, Spanish

        Eligibility:

        Must be blind or visually impaired.

        Must be a resident of Miami-Dade or Monroe Counties.
