Traffic Safety Education/Inspections
Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to ensure their safety while riding bicycles. Bicycle safety programs provide information about traffic laws as they apply to bicyclists and warnings regarding the types of violations and other riding behaviors that most frequently result in accidents. Also included are programs that address the specific needs of people who use their bicycles to commute to work, ride to school or get to other destinations.
Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections
Programs, often offered by police and fire personnel, that conduct inspections which offer guidance regarding child passenger safety seats and the law, choosing a car seat that is appropriate for a particular child's height and weight, correct car seat installation and restraining a child in a car seat.
Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures people can take to ensure their safety when driving an automobile or other motor vehicle. Driving safety programs provide information about traffic laws as they apply to motor vehicles; warnings regarding behaviors which contribute to accidents such as speeding and driving while drowsy or intoxicated; suggestions for avoiding confrontations with aggressive drivers; and tips for driving safely under specific conditions, e.g., with trucks and other large vehicles, in bad weather, in heavy traffic, in parking lots, or in areas where deer and other large animals may be roadway hazards. Information about recommended automobile maintenance practices, used car purchase tips and suggestions regarding safety equipment such as air bags may also be included.
Programs, frequently directed at parents and/or their children, that are designed to increase public awareness of the basic rules of pedestrian safety and the potential dangers of crossing the street or playing in or near streets and driveways.
Programs that are designed primarily for traffic offenders but are open to all people who may be interested which offer classes about the laws and regulations in the motor vehicle code and highway courtesy. The classes provide information about defensive driving techniques, demonstrations of the effects of alcohol on driving ability and warnings regarding the types of driving behaviors that most frequently result in accidents; and may be available via the Internet. Traffic school attendance may be court-ordered.
