Description:
Breakthrough Miami (BTM) uses a unique !students-teaching-students! model to create a rigorous, vibrant learning community, where highly motivated, traditionally underrepresented 5th-12th grade students are supported to achieve post-secondary success and emerging leaders are inspired to become the next generation of educators and advocates.
BTM recruits students throughout Miami Dade County. Selected students are supported through an unparalleled eight-year academic and social enrichment program. The journey includes six-week Summer Institutes (grades 5-9) and Saturday programming during the school years. The near peer mentoring imbedded in the students-teaching-students model provides positive role models and academic support while simultaneously shaping future educational leaders and teachers. Teaching Fellows (high school/college students) are mentored and supervised by experienced educators. BTM programming builds academic and life/leadership skills, and peer relationships, which allow students to thrive in rigorous programs, graduate high school and enter four-year colleges.
