Description:
The Medical Examiner Department provides medicolegal investigative services for the citizens of Miami-Dade County. The work of the department focuses on forensic pathology. This field of study combines the efforts of legal and police investigations with those of medicine and science to ascertain the facts surrounding deaths, particularly the cause and manner of death.
Services include: death certificate copies, pathology, toxicology, forensic odontology, forensic photography, medical records, morgue, photography, medical investigations, public interment and indigent cremation service.

Intake Process:
The legal next of kin should contact a funeral home or crematorium, make final arrangements and sign a written release, giving the Medical Examiner Department permission to release the body.The agency will then guide family members and friends of the deceased on how to proceed.
